Thanks Steve,

It always frustrates me when I see what information is available (largely for free if you just open your eyes) and yet many trainers are still stuck in the dark ages and pass this crap on to gym members and the like!

Just yesterday a guy came into our studio with a shoulder injury. Apparently he consulted one of the trainers in his gym and was told to do more work on the shoulder press machine to get it stronger. Shock horror the shoulder has got worse....

All we can do is keep doing our best I guess!!

Take care mate and let me know what you're up to!

Jon

PS Add me on Facebook so we can stay in touch!

Dude....Awesome Post.....My athletes are surprised when I refer to them as such...

One of them was saying the other week that her daughters boyfriend is a professional hockey player in Calgary, and when he stayed over he did a workout....she remarked that Renegade Manmakers were tough....he was surprised to hear her know the exercise let alone the name [he had only discovered them pre season when they had a new fitness guy come in]....when she told him of our workouts, and he saw them on the blog he remarked that they were actually quite similar to the workouts they did as a team.

She was stoked....and I reminded her of my comment when she joined....as far as I am concerned they are all elite athletes.....its just some bodys have some catching up to do ;)

Great post buddy.....

Have a great one

Just doing my job ma'am!

Unfortunately until you get the brain sorted, the body will never be as you want it to be whether that it aesthetics, performance or anything else!

Jon, inspirational and thought-provoking as always. Better yet, action-provoking. I overdid it a little last week and realized some of my limitations, but I'm ready to tackle them again this week. Thanks for highlighting this problem by hitting us with a reality check. It's much needed and I love how descriptive you are. Makes me dig deep into my goals and re-evaluate why I'm doing what I'm doing. k

Thanks guys!

Jo - you could definitely set up some form of games in that area!

We did a mini Olympics last year in the local park which went down really well - make it twice yearly event summer and winter as 12 months is usually too long to keep people focussed! Make sure there are events which enable different people to shine (i.e 5k run, kettlebell tossing, strength etc...)

What a great post. I am always trying to get my clients to think this way too, but it is a hard concept for middle aged women to grasp. The few who have totally changed their mindsets are achieving amazing results, and some who are slowly rethinking are beginning to see the benefits.

I have recently gotten a lot of these involved in local triathlons and it has been amazing. I am now working on some 'adventure' type challenges that I will hold every 4-6 weeks to encourage more and more 'mums and dads' to look at performance and health improvement as the means to the end-the end being the athletic body that they all want.

Does anyone have any ideas for 'challenges' beyond the usual running, mountain biking etc that I could set up at my venue. I have 20 acres of land which backs onto the bushland so space is not an issue. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Awesome post Jon....i too have made this mistake for too long...until I discovered functional training and Kettlebells.
Now I follow Crossift and MMA style workouts with a focus on performance rather than reps and sets!

My clients also follows this style of training.
